There’s a War On, You Know

About the Play

By May 1941 St Cecilia's School for Young Ladies is well rehearsed for the Founder's Day performance of  'The Mikado'.  But  Japan enters the war and the Bishop (or rather the Bishop's wife) decrees the show quite unsuitable.

School efforts to overcome this disaster become entwined with the activities of the local VDF (Home Guard), which meets at the school, when some young girls attempt to explain the plot of 'The Mikado' to a young VDF recruit.  He believes they are talking about a real event, and relates a garbled version to his Captain.  A comedy of errors ensues.

The play climaxes with an 'invasion' of St. Cecillia's school during Founder's Day.
